The 39-year-old had earned praise for his work with the Tigers, so it came as a surprise for him to lose his position with the Yorkshire outfit.

This could now put other sides in the second division on notice, and could open the door for further managerial changes.

It remains to be seen who will replace Rosenior at the MKM Stadium, although an announcement is expected soon.

However, Rosenior himself will also surely be looking to get back into management again quickly so that he can use the summer window to make his mark at his new club.

Rosenior decision compares to Birmingham City

Carlton Palmer revealed his shock at seeing Rosenior being dismissed by Hull, and compared it to Birmingham City’s decision to part ways with John Eustace last October.

He has warned that owner Acun Ilicali should be careful what he wishes for, as this decision could have similar ramifications for his team.

“After the shock departure of Liam Rosenior, he’s now available, which is good news for any Championship club,” Palmer told Football League World.

“As we’ve seen previously in the season, John Eustace was sacked from Birmingham City, which was another crazy decision.

“I think it was a little bit unfortunate. I think they appointed Wayne Rooney and couldn’t get him out in the summer and, unfortunately for the Birmingham owners, Eustace went on to do a fantastic job when they were sixth in the table.

“But they were committed to Wayne Ronney, and it all went wrong.

“They ended up getting relegated and wasn’t it ironic that on the last day of the season John Eustace’s Blackburn beat Leicester to keep them in the Championship and Birmingham City got relegated?

“So you have to be careful what you wish for.”

Carlton Palmer tips Liam Rosenior for Sunderland

Palmer believes that Sunderland could be an ideal destination for the coach if he wants an immediate return to the Championship.

“As I said, it’s a really shocking decision in my opinion that Liam Rosenior has lost his job, so he’s now available on a free,” he added.

“And I’m sure a host of clubs will be looking at Liam Rosenior, he’ll be looking at, I assume, another Championship club straight away.

“One that springs to mind immediately is the Sunderland job.

“Sunderland have lots of young players, Liam is keen to work with young players and bring them on.

“As I say, the only issue will be the philosophy of the club about bringing members of staff in, and working with senior players, you’ve got to get the balance right.

“Sunderland’s approach at the moment is that they’re looking to bring in young players for cheap money, play them, develop them and sell them for big money.

“But a manager wants to come in and be successful, there’s a nucleus of a good squad at Sunderland.

“With a few additions, whether it’s a mixture of senior and youth, they could be pushing for the play-offs next season.

“So, that would be a very, very good appointment at Sunderland if they could get Liam Rosenior over the line.”

Sunderland could be a good fit for Rosenior

Rosenior now has a proven track record of getting results at this level.

While Hull narrowly missed out on a play-off place, he still did well to get the team from competing against relegation to fighting for a top six finish.

He would be a very solid appointment at Sunderland, and would even be well suited to their current model behind the scenes.

His work at Derby County showed that he is more than willing to work with, and develop, younger players while still achieving positive results, making him ideal for the Black Cats.
