As per VI’s Sander Janssen and David Ornstein, Robin Roefs is set to join Sunderland. The newly promoted Premier League club are willing to pay “a substantial fee” for the 22-year-old NEC goalkeeper. Roefs will travel to England on Wednesday to undergo a medical.

Succeeding the well-known Oranje international, Jasper Cillessen, Roefs impressed in goal for Nijmegen last season. Furthermore, this summer saw him step in as the starting goalkeeper for the Dutch U21 team at the European U21 Championship, replacing the injured Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro.

According to insiders, NEC will receive a whopping €10.5 million plus €3 million in bonuses for the young goalkeeper, who still has three years left on his contract with NEC. The Gelderland-based team have also negotiated a resale percentage.

Sunderland have already spent nearly €116 million on reinforcements in their bid to stay in the Premier League. It is their first time back in the first division since the 2016-17 campaign.
