Udinese have stepped up their pursuit of Sunderland midfielder Pierre Ekwah (22), according to a report from L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi.

New Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris has stated the the midfielder, whose pre-season was disrupted by injury, could leave the EFL Championship club this summer, amid growing interest in the Frenchman. Last season, he made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats, scoring five goals and registering two assists. However, it could ultimately be his final full season on Wearside.

An offer for Ekwah has now been submitted and it has come from Serie A side Udinese. According to Tanzi, the bid in question is worth €5m. However, that offer has been rejected by Sunderland. The Italian side are unlikely to stop there, and the French journalist understands that they will soon return with a new bid, as Ekwah’s chances of departing the Stadium of Light this summer increase.
