Sunderland will be looking to get three points on the board this weekend as they take on Gillingham in Sky Bet League One.

The Gills have had a fine revival under Neil Harris and will provide a stern test for the Black Cats, with Alex Neil surely drumming it into his players that they need to be right at it to avoid any slip-ups in terms of a result.

It’ll be interesting to see what side he names to get the job done, then, but it looks as though they are going to be without Aiden McGeady, and that could potentially be the case until the end of the campaign.

James Hunter revealed on Twitter after sitting in on Neil’s pre-Gillingham press conference:

The Verdict

Sunderland will hope that McGeady can get back fit to feature in the final matches of the season as it is obvious what quality he can bring, particularly in big matches.

However, the Black Cats need to get results without him and Alex Neil will not be allowing any excuses tomorrow afternoon.

Gillingham are a team that, on paper, Sunderland should be beating – but it is of course harder than that and, indeed, under Neil Harris they have improved so it is going to be an interesting test for the Wearsiders.
