More Less

The process to appoint Lee Johnson’s successor is starting to frustrate Sunderland fans, with it being a slow-moving search thus far.

The Black Cats were left in a position where they were challenging for automatic promotion when Johnson departed, and whilst they are still fighting for a spot in the top two, their chances are seemingly diminishing.

The verdict

Given his evident football knowledge, no-nonsense approach and character, Keane would have been an excellent appointment for the Black Cats, however, it did appear from the onset that finances were likely to play a big role.

However, the three managers still in contention all come with higher-level experience and could certainly give the club a boost as they continue to chase promotion back to the Championship.

It remains to be seen if their search for Johnson’s successor will exclusively be confined to the aforementioned trio, but given how long the process has taken already, it would be no surprise to see a decision made relatively soon.
