Sunderland boss Melanie Reay handed McInnes nine outings in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season as the club enjoyed a solid return to the second tier. The youngster made just four starts in the league but she regularly filled a place on the bench and was a reliable option when called upon.

McInnes’ only appearance so far this season came as a substitute in Sunderland’s 1-0 defeat at Bristol City. The player has been named in all three of manager Reay’s matchday squads and she undoubtedly has a role to play for Sunderland this season.

Sunderland boss Reay is dedicated to working with and developing the club’s current crop of players. The Lady Black Cats retained the services of the vast majority of their 2021/2022 squad over the summer. The club have adopted a familiar feel this season rather than implement several changes amongst the personnel.
