L’Équipe are reporting that Championship side Sunderland are pushing to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Édouard Michut (20), who spent the 2022/23 season on loan at the club.

Michut, whose contract at PSG runs until the summer of 2025, made 28 appearances for the Black Cats last season, scoring once. However, at the end of a relatively successful spell in England, Sunderland’s sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said that “all parties mutually agreed it was best to pursue other opportunities at this moment in time.”

There has now seemingly been a change of heart. According to L’Équipe Sunderland are pushing to bring Michut back to the Stadium of Light before the closure of the summer transfer window on Friday night. The France U20 international is also attracting interest from Swiss, Belgian and Turkish clubs, whose transfer windows shut later than in England and France.

Michut has been frozen out at PSG, and has spent the summer in the “loft” training with the “undesirables.” He is one of many players, including the likes of Julian Draxler and Marco Verratti, who are looking to leave Les Parisiens before the closure of the window.
