Gus Poyet believes Sunderland will only accept offers for star players this summer if they are simply too good to turn down.

The likes of Jobe Bellingham, Jack Clarke and Anthony Patterson have all been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light.

Bellingham has the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea keeping tabs on his progress.

Meanwhile, Clarke has been the subject of intense speculation for the last 12 months, with a number of Premier League clubs being named as potential next destinations, including Crystal Palace.

Interest in Patterson has only emerged recently, but it has been claimed Liverpool and Arsenal are among the clubs weighing up a move for him at the end of the season.

Poyet makes Sunderland summer transfer prediction

Poyet believes Sunderland will do everything they can to hold onto their best players for next season.

He has claimed that his former club will only accept offers for the trio if the deal on the table is just too good to turn down.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, via Casinoohneoasis, Poyet said: “It’s so important to keep your best players.

Sunderland have a great crop of young players and keeping them can help push up the table next season.

“The vision must be to develop young talent and give them game time, so they can perform like they did last year

“The fans will get behind the players and The Stadium of Light can see Premier League football again.

“All three players have impressed and until an offer comes in that the Club can’t turn down then they will stay and play week in week out.”

Bellingham, Clarke and Patterson have all been consistent starters for the Black Cats this season.

They have featured 42, 37 and 42 times in the Championship respectively this year, as the team attempted to fight for a play-off place.

Sunderland’s disappointing season

However, the club’s campaign was derailed in the second half of the year after a disastrous run of form under Michael Beale.

He oversaw just four wins in 12 games, leading to his dismissal after just 63 days as head coach.

Mike Dodds has not fared much better in the role, having been appointed in his place until the end of the season.

The Wearside outfit is aiming to appoint a permanent replacement for Beale in the summer, although no official decision has yet been made on who that will be.

The likes of Will Still, Danny Rohl and Paul Heckingbottom have all been mentioned as front-running candidates.

A busy summer ahead for Sunderland

Any prospective new head coach at Sunderland will want to know the situation surrounding these three players before accepting the role.

Keeping at least two of these three together will be crucial for any promotion challenge next year.

It will have to take significant offers for the Black Cats to accept otherwise, as that would be a huge loss to a first team squad for a new head coach to have to handle.

Clarke is the likeliest to move this summer, but if they can keep Bellingham and Patterson then they could be able to absorb the blow of losing such a key forward from the squad.
