Sunderland are reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Peterborough United midfielder Marcus Maddison.
Maddison was a standout performer for the Posh last season, scoring 10 goals and assisting 19 in 42 appearances.
According to Echo Sport, the 25-year-old has a £2.5m release clause and the Black Cats feel they can ‘take advantage’.
Peterborough, however, could offer Maddison fresh terms in a late attempt to keep him at Weston Homes Stadium.
Thus far, only Connor McLaughlin has arrived as a new outfield player, with goalkeeper Lee Burge also coming in.
Former Burnley striker Tinashe Chakwana is also a target.
