Sunderland have made an approach to sign Ajax forward Brian Brobbey amid the expectation that Chelsea loanee Marc Guiu will be recalled on deadline day.

Brobbey has emerged as an option to add to Sunderland’s attacking options. The Netherlands international is yet to feature for Ajax this season, partly due to an ankle issue.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting it is a ‘difficult deal’ so late in the window but Sunderland are exploring the prospect of signing Brobbey.

It comes amid the expectation that the Black Cats will lose Guiu. Chelsea are assessing the viability of recalling Guiu from his loan spell, following Liam Delap’s hamstring injury.

Guiu joined Sunderland earlier in the window but has featured for just 13 minutes across the club’s first three Premier League games.

The Spanish teenager did mark his full debut with a goal in Sunderland’s Carabao Cup exit to Huddersfield Town last week.

Chelsea are planning to recall the 19-year-old, in order to allow Nicolas Jackson to complete his loan move to Bayern Munich. The West Londoners blocked the Jackson deal with the forward in Germany to finalise the move.
