Sunderland agree deal to sign Dutch goalkeeper as new No.1 | OneFootball

Sunderland have reached an agreement to sign Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs from NEC Nijmegen, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The deal is believed to be worth over €10.5 million (£9 million), with an additional €3 million in potential add-ons. It also includes a sell-on clause. Roefs is expected to complete a medical on Wednesday ahead of signing a five-year contract with the newly promoted Championship club.

The 22-year-old Netherlands Under-21 international is set to become Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper and will be their seventh signing of the summer window. He follows the arrivals of Reinildo Mandava, Chemsdine Talbi, Noah Sadiki, Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, and Simon Adingra.

Roefs came through the youth ranks at NEC and made 42 senior appearances, playing a key role in helping the club secure an eighth-place finish in the Eredivisie last season. He also featured at the Under-21 European Championship this summer, where the Netherlands reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners England.

According to Ornstein, Sunderland are also close to finalising a separate deal to bring in former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen in a move worth around €20 million.
