FLW takes a look at how Jobe Bellingham's value compares against other players in the Championship.

Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham is one of the most exciting young players in the Championship, so he would likely command a significant transfer fee if another club wanted to acquire his services.

Since joining Sunderland from Birmingham City for a fee of £3 million last summer, Bellingham has established himself as a key player in the Mackems' midfield.

The 18-year-old only missed one Championship game during his debut season on Wearside, scoring seven goals over the course of the campaign as Sunderland finished 16th in the second tier.

He has played 90 minutes in all four of Sunderland's league victories so far during the 2024/25 campaign and provided an assist in their opening-day win over Cardiff City.

When Bellingham is on the pitch, it is easy to forget that he is still a teenager considering his confidence and physicality, but it is unlikely that Sunderland would forget how many years he has ahead of him to develop his game if another club attempted to sign him.

With that in mind, let's take a look at how Bellingham's value compares with other top players in the Championship.

Jobe Bellingham's market value compared with other Championship stars

According to market value data provided by Transfermarkt, Bellingham ranks inside the top 25 most expensive players in the Championship.

Sheffield United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic, Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and Burnley shot-stopper James Trafford are the three most expensive players in the division, with a market value of €18 million.

Bellingham and Anthony Patterson are the only two Sunderland players in the top 25 on the list, with them both having a market value of €12 million.

The next permanently contracted Sunderland player on the list is Trai Hume, who has a market value of €7 million.

Bellingham is the most valuable teenager in the Championship according to Transfermarkt, with Middlesbrough's on-loan winger Ben Doak and Burnley youngster Luca Koleosho next after him with market values of €10 million and €7 million respectively.

Jobe Bellingham would likely cost more in reality

While Bellingham's market value is €12 million as per the list, it would be no surprise if Sunderland put a higher price tag on his head if another club showed an interest in signing him.

When Newcastle United were keen on signing Trafford, who has a market value of €18 million according to Transfermarkt, during the summer transfer window, Burnley demanded a fee of £20 million, and the deal never materialised.

Similarly, Norwich City striker Josh Sargent has a market value of €14 million on the list, despite the Canaries rejecting an offer worth more than £15 million for the American international during the summer transfer window.

Indeed, according to Ed Aarons, when Premier League clubs showed an interest in the summer, the Wearsiders were holding out for more than £20 million for their rising star. That figure is only likely to grow as he becomes more established.

Sunderland are unlikely to want to lose Bellingham any time soon, especially after their outstanding start to the 2024/25 Championship season, so it is no surprise to see that his market value ranks alongside some of the best players in the division.

His contract at the Stadium of Light is not due to expire until 2028, meaning the Mackems are under no pressure to sell their promising midfielder, so he would likely cost more than €12 million in reality, which will be absolutely fine with the supporters.
