Sunderland are tracking a striker in League Two ahead of the January transfer window.
According to Sports Illustrated, the Black Cats are weighing up a potential offer for Ali Al Hamadi.
The Wearside outfit have sent scouts to monitor the 21-year-old’s performances for AFC Wimbledon in the fourth tier.
The forward has made an impressive start to the League Two campaign, with Wimbledon aiming to fight for promotion back to League One this year.
This comes after grabbing a number of headlines for his displays in the previous season in his first six months at the club after signing to the Dons in the most recent January window.
Al Hamadi is a striker that came through the ranks at Swansea City before taking the step down to non-league football with Bromle as part of a loan deal.
The forward departed the Swans on a permanent basis in 2021, signing for Wycombe Wanderers, where he found game time hard to come by.
The Iraq international made just nine appearances for the Wanderers before signing for Wimbledon earlier this year.
Since joining the League Two side, he has made a major impact in their attack.
He played a big role in keeping Wimbledon in the fourth division last season, scoring an impressive 10 goals from 19 appearances in his first half-season with the club.
This campaign he has continued to contribute consistently in attack, adding four goals and four assists to his name from 13 fixtures.
Wimbledon are currently 10th in the table at this early stage of the new term, with the club aiming to earn its place back in the third division.
Johnnie Jackson’s side is currently three points behind the play-off places, with recent form dropping them out of the top seven.
Sunderland are keeping tabs on the progress of the Iraq international, who has impressed despite the team’s recent dip in form.
The Black Cats have targeted younger signings over the last few years, to much success, and now have sent scouts to watch the Wimbledon striker.
Tony Mowbray’s side could be searching for a new permanent forward to add to their ranks, with Mason Burstow asserting himself as the team’s current leading striker while on loan from Chelsea.
Sunderland are aiming to fight for promotion themselves, with the Black Cats sitting 10th in the Championship table after a slight dip in form in recent weeks.
Next up for Mowbray’s team is a clash at home against Norwich City on 28 October.
Al Hamadi wasn’t able to break into Swansea’s first team squad when he was a teenager but he has dropped down the divisions and proven himself quite well.
The jump from League Two to the Championship is a difficult one.
But Sunderland could be willing to loan him back out for the remainder of the campaign given the number of attacking options at their disposal.
