Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham is believed to have agreed to join German side Borussia Dortmund this summer
Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham has verbally agreed to join Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The 19-year-old played a pivotal role in the Black Cats’ return to the Premier League this season, appearing 43 times on the way to the play-off final at Wembley.
Bellingham’s limitless potential and excellent performances have brought forward the attention of various potential suitors, who are all vying for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
According to Football Insider, the teenager is ready to finalise terms with the German giants just days after helping Sunderland end their eight-year Premier League absence.
Bellingham has reportedly held talks with Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt in recent days but is believed to be most convinced by the offer from Dortmund.
It would mean him following the same path as his brother Jude, who has told his sibling the benefits of life in Germany with the club.
Sunderland had hoped that promotion to the top-flight might be enough to convince Bellingham to stay, but it looks like the prospect has his heart set on BVB.
Tottenham and Chelsea have shown interest in the midfielder, according to Football Insider, but the pair are set to miss out on a deal for the exciting talent.
Fans and critics alike were quick to dismiss Bellingham after a sub-par first season at the Stadium of Light, but this term the teenager has silenced his doubters.
When the time came, he rose to the play-off occasion and was influential in both semi-final games against Coventry, before once again turning up against Sheffield United at Wembley.
These performances, coupled with his successful sibling, have attracted clubs such as Dortmund, who are desperate to try and harness another talent from the Bellingham family.
There will no doubt be amplified pressure on Bellingham’s shoulders at the Signal Iduna Park, due to his brother’s legacy-building stint in Germany.
The Dortmund faithful watched Jude grow from a boy to a man, polishing all areas of his game before departing to become a Galactico.
Jude played a large role in helping the club clinch the 2021 DFB-Pokal, success Jobe will hope to match and potentially surpass.
The 19-year-old clearly isn’t lacking in confidence and has the ability to back it up, but will need to be on his A-game immediately to capture the hearts and minds of the Yellow Wall in a similar fashion to his brother.
