Borussia Dortmund U23s won their home match against TSV Havelse 1-0 in front of 786 fans at the Stadion Rote Erde on Saturday afternoon. Richmond Tachie scored the decisive goal. With the three points, BVB jumped up to seventh position in the table.
The opponent ahead of the game: TSV Havelse has made a good start to the footballing year and is fighting to stay in the league. Every point counts in the tight 3rd division relegation battle. Fellow promoted side Havelse only managed to win their first three points after nine matchdays of the current season, preceded by a run of seven defeats and one draw. Coach Rüdiger Ziehl's team has languished in a relegation spot since the second matchday, but things are going much better for the Lower Saxons in 2022. A share of the spoils against leaders Magdeburg was followed by a defeat against Wiesbaden and, most recently, two wins against Türkgücü München and SV Meppen.
Personnel matters: Lennard Maloney returned to the starting eleven after suspension and replaced Franz Pfanne, who had to sit out this weekend due to his own suspension.
Match & Analysis: The visitors didn't just defend and tried to play courageously in the opening minutes. The first shot belonged to TSV, but Fynn-Luca Lakenmacher's shot proved no problem for BVB goalkeeper Luca Unbehaun in the fifth minute.
BVB's first chance came from a free kick. Antonios Papadopoulos latched on to Berkan Taz’ s cross, but his header missed the right post by a few centimetres in the ninth minute. It was similarly close with a free kick by Berkan Taz, which agonisingly missed the goal to the left after about twenty minutes. Overall, BVB enjoyed more of the game and twice had dangerous shots on goal through Justin Njinmah (24th) and Berkan Taz (38th). In the 39th minute of the match, Borussia was awarded a penalty after a handball in the box. Berkan Taz stepped up to the spot but failed to beat Norman Quindt, who guessed the right way and was able to deflect the ball for a corner.
Coach Enrico Maassen's charges were also the more active side after the break. Ole Pohlmann had the first shot of the second half after 48 minutes. Papadopoulos came even closer with his chance from a corner in the 62nd minute. Substitute Richmond Tachie scored the only goal of the game after a corner. Taz's cross was headed across to the back post, where Tachie only had to tap the ball over the line. The 22-year-old had already scored the winner in the first meeting of the two sides earlier in the season.
BVB then defended skilfully, sought relief by attacking regularly and kept the ball away from their own goal. The visitors, who threw everyone forward, ran out of steam in the end. BVB remains unbeaten at Stadion Rote Erde this year and move up to seventh place in the table.
BVB U23: Unbehaun – Maloney, Hober, Tattermusch (62. Tachie), Taz (90. Broschinski), Papadopoulos, Pohlmann (62. Bueno), Viet (90. Bah-Traore), Njinmah (85. Bornemann), Pherai, Dams
Goals: 1:0 Tachie (72.)
Special moments: Quindt saved a penalty from Taz (40.)
Outlook: Next Saturday 19 February, the U23s travel to play league leaders Magdeburg with kick off at 14:00 CET.
