Stuttgart have confirmed that they have sacked head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.

The 44-year-old has left the Mercedes-Benz Arena with immediate effect following a 1-0 defeat to Union Berlin on Sunday, with the club languishing in the Bundesliga relegation zone.

Matarazzo had been at the club for almost three years, arriving in December 2019 and earning promotion back to the top tier of German football.

The American had impressed in the dugout since arriving in the Bundesliga, earning two solid mid-table finishes.

However, Stuttgart have made a poor start to this season having failed to win any of their first nine fixtures.
