VfB Stuttgart rued their lack of efficiency in front of goal after Saturday's 2–1 defeat to Union Berlin.

Sebastian Hoeneß’ side created numerous chances throughout the game but were able to convert only one.

Union, on the other hand, made the most of their opportunities, scoring twice from as many shots to secure a 2–1 victory after taking a two-goal lead in the first half.

“It was a tough task for us to chase after a 0–2 deficit. The team tried a lot and approached the situation with great commitment in the second half,” Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß said in a post-match interview.

“Overall, we created many scoring chances, but unfortunately could only convert one of them. If we had pulled one back earlier, probably even more would have been possible.

"In the end, it was bitter in the closing stages: Luca Jaquez got injured, so we had to finish the match with one player less, and a goal was disallowed for offside. It has been a frustrating afternoon for us.”

The players shared Hoeneß’ frustration.

“Our game plan was solid, and most of our chances were well worked. Today, we definitely could have done more – which makes this defeat all the more frustrating,” said Maximilian Mittelstädt.

“It hurts a lot today. These are things we know from last season: we have to work so hard at times just to score a goal. We put in a lot of effort. Ultimately, we need to be even harder, more determined, and that’s what we’re working on," added captain Atakan Karazor.
