The return of Congolese winger “Silas” Katompa Mvumpa” to his Bundesliga parent club has been confirmed. Silas is slated to begin pre-season training camp with VfB Stuttgart in July. Kicker nevertheless reports that the Swabians are still shopping the 26-year-old for an €8m price tag.
Since incurring a major ACL tear during the latter half of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign, Silas’ once promising German footballing career has never recorded. In the summer of 2021, it was revealed that Silas (then known as “Silas Wamangituka”) had worked with an agent to falsify his name and age.
Silas struggled in subsequent seasons with both after affects of the injury and the strain of his legal battles within the German court system. Once considered a €25m-valued-player at the peak of his potential, Silas’ estimated market value sunk to a low of €8m in 2023.
Stuttgart loaned Silas out to Red Star Belgrade at the beginning of last season. The 18-times-capped Congo DR international enjoyed some success in Serbia, scoring five goals in 16 league appearances en-route to the Serbian SuperLiga title with his loan club.
Silas also scored twice for the Serbs in the Champions League, including once against his parent club in a 5-1 UCL drubbing at Rajko Mitić Stadium in November 2024. Despite this, more injury concerns led to Red Star declining his purchase option and shipping him back to Stuttgart.
With a contract expiring at the end of next season, the Württemberg club remains keen to cash in on a player with little long-term prospects in the squad. Stuttgart initially paid €8m to acquire Silas from Paris SG in September 2018.
Red Star could still purchase him.
