Paul Robinson has touted a potential transfer agreement between Celtic and Southampton as Fraser Forster’s value soars to “stupid money”.
In an exclusive interview with Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Tottenham and England shot-stopper says that the 31-year-old’s situation at the Premier League side means they cannot expect a big-figure fee for his sale.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Southampton are expected to cash in on the goalkeeper next summer and have set a £25million-plus valuation on his head.
Robinson says it is ridiculous that the Saints are asking for such a huge fee considering how he was frozen out at St Mary’s before his move back to Celtic Park.
Robinson told Football Insider: “He’s been completely frozen out of the first-team squad, nowhere near playing so how you can demand £25million for somebody in that situation at the club I’ve got no idea.
“Celtic will just turn round and send him back if they’re asking stupid money for him. They can’t demand £25million for a player that they clearly don’t want because he’s gone out and done well elsewhere.
“I’d like to think that from Celtic’s point of view, they’ve had some kind of agreement with Southampton over a buy-out clause at the end of the loan because £25million is a very unrealistic valuation.”
Forster has been a mainstay for the Hoops since moving back north of the border, playing a crucial role in securing the Scottish League Cup earlier in December.
He has already played 23 times for the Bhoys this season, with a total of 220 appearances under his belt while at Parkhead.
In other Celtic news, Football Insider can reveal that the club are plotting to sign a Premier League midfielder in January.
