Derby County and Sheffield United have been put off a move for Leicester City's Daniel Iversen due to the finances involved in the deal.
Derby County and Sheffield United are looking elsewhere after being priced out of a move for Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.
It’s no secret that the two Championship clubs have been on the lookout for a new number one this summer, and Iversen is someone that has been on the radar due to his impressive performances at this level in the past.
However, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that the finances involved in a deal for the 27-year-old have prompted the Rams and the Blades to look elsewhere.
The update states that Leicester are looking for a £1.5m fee for the stopper, even though he is way down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.
Furthermore, it’s explained that Iversen is on wages of around £25,0000 a week with Leicester, and it could be difficult for clubs in the second tier to get near those figures.
With the report stating that a loan move is currently off the table, as the newly-promoted side look to get a fee for the keeper, both Derby and Sheffield United are said to be ‘exploring other targets’.
It remains to be seen if Leicester soften their stance as the window progresses, but it’s clear that Iverseen needs to be out playing football, so you would hope something can give.
The Dane has impressed with Preston and Stoke in the Championship over the years, and it would be a shame if he spent the campaign where he may not even make the bench at Leicester, when he could be contributing on the pitch.
But, we know that finances dictate, and there will potentially need to be a compromise somewhere for Iversen to be allowed to go.
If Leicester can’t find a buyer, you would expect them to be more open to a loan prior to the deadline, so it’s certainly one to monitor over the next few weeks, but clubs will be looking at other players. For example, it’s thought that Derby are expected to complete the signing of Jacob Widell Zetterstrom from Swedish side Djurgardens.
The goalkeeping situation is a problem for Sheffield United, as Ivo Grbic didn’t convince last season, and it’s fair to say that he hasn’t enjoyed the best pre-season so far.
With Wes Fotheringham at West Ham, finding a reliable keeper has to be one of the priorities for Chris Wilder in the window, and Iversen will have appealed due to his experience in the second tier.
Adam Davies was in goal for the pre-season win at Rotherham United on Saturday, and the 32-year-old has done well in the Football League over the years.
But, his lack of game time in the past few seasons has to be a real concern, and whilst he may be the man to have the gloves for the opener against Preston at Deepdale as it stands, you would expect Wilder to want a new face through the door to increase the competition in what is such an important position.
