Stuart Attwell has been appointed as the man in the middle for when Arsenal host Manchester City at the Emirates on New Year's Day in the Premier League. Kick-off at 12:30 pm (GMT).
For what will be his 17th time in charge of Manchester City, Attwell and his team will officiate the first Premier League game of 2022. City have an impressive record when Attwell has refereed –winning twelve, drawing one, and losing three.
The 39-year-old last officiated Pep Guardiola's side when they put 3 past Everton with no reply earlier this season at the Etihad.
One of the memorable encounters occurred at the end of last season when Attwell sent off Joao Cancelo at Brighton. The Seagulls beat City 3-2, but the Blues already had the league won.

Attwell was also in charge when Chelsea infamously beat City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in June of 2020 - the same game that confirmed Liverpool as Premier League champions. Fernandinho was also given his marching orders.
