Strong Newcastle side complete late turnaround to beat Gateshead | OneFootball

Newcastle came from behind to beat Gateshead 3-2 in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.

Scorers: Dinanga 12′, Wearne 45′; Anderson 55′, Saint-Maximin 61′, Turner-Cooke 81′

Eddie Howe named a number of first-teamers in the starting XI for this clash against their non-league neighbours.

But against all odds it was Gateshead who scored first as Dinanga finished well.

Despite boasting the likes of Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint-Maximin in the side, Newcastle were soon two down on the stroke of half time as Wearne tapped in.

Into the second half and the Magpies pulled one back straightaway as Elliot Anderson struck home.

Newcastle then levelled things up as Saint-Maximin showed his class before firing in.

Howe’s men turned it around with 15 minutes to go as youngster Jay Turner-Cooke netted.
