Strong at home versus strong away – U23s to travel to Unterhaching | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund's U23s will face promoted SpVgg Unterhaching, who have had a strong season so far, at Sportpark Unterhaching at 14:00 CET on Saturday. While BVB are unbeaten away from home since November, Haching have won all three of their home matches in the 2024 calendar year. The reverse fixture at Stadion Rote Erde ended in a 2-2 draw after BVB had taken a clear 2-0 lead.

The most recent meeting on the southern outskirts of Munich was a while ago. The Borussia Dortmund reserves last paid a visit to Unterhaching almost 10 years ago. The Black & Yellows suffered a 2-0 defeat that day and both teams were relegated from the 3. Liga come the end of the season. But the scenario is different going into the latest clash. Coach Jan Zimmer's charges have lost only two times on the road this season and BVB are without an away defeat since the end of November. Meanwhile, the Blue & Reds boast a strong home record to date: only against Regensburg and Bielefeld have the hosts been beaten. With 27 points from 13 home matches, Unterhaching are the third-best home team in the division. Their experienced defence have conceded only nine goals in those games too.

Unterhaching are enjoying an above-average season with many young players. In addition to veterans Rene Vollath in goal, Markus Schwabl and Josef Weizmüller in defence and Patrick Hobsch and Mathias Fetsch in attack (the duo have scored 20 goals between them this season), Haching have integrated many young players into the team – including a striking number of academy products. U17 World Cup winner Konstantin Heide has also already made an appearance this season. And last week, Gibson Nana Adu set a new record when he became the youngest third-division player of all time at the age of 16 years and three days – displacing BVB's young first-team player Abdoulaye Kamara. Haching have been able to spring surprises with their style of play time and again this season and take points off one or two of the favourites. Coach Marc Unterberger's team are currently ninth in the table with 40 points. With only 25 goals conceded, the Bavarians have the league's strongest defence.

It is a clash between two neighbours in the table: BVB have a two-point lead over Unterhaching and are aiming to pick up three more points at the Sportpark to increase that gap. BVB coach Jan Zimmermann can once again call on a well-attuned squad and has little reason to make any changes after the clear 5-2 home win against SC Verl last Saturday.

BVB's last win in Unterhaching dates back to February 2010, however, and they will do everything in their power to improve upon their own record in the south of Munich. The BVB fans will be able to help them in their efforts as the U23s are not playing in parallel to the first team on Saturday, with the latter in action on Sunday. Tickets for the game in Unterhaching will still be available from the ticket office on the day.
