Leeds United and Tottenham are among a host of clubs keeping tabs on Udinese right wing-back Festy Ebosele ahead of the summer window.
The 21-year-old is a name that some Football League fans may remember, as he came through the ranks at Derby County, with his energetic style standing out during what was a tough time for the club.
Ebosele made 35 appearances for the Rams in the 2021/22 campaign, with his form earning a move to Udinese, and the Irish international has featured regularly for the Serie A side, particularly this season.
And, it appears his form is attracting attention, as reports have claimed that both Leeds and Spurs have Ebosele on their radar.
This would be an exciting deal for either club, as Ebosele is the sort of player that fans enjoy watching.
Even though he plays as a wing-back, his main attributes are his pace and willingness to get forward, and at 21, Ebosele is someone who still has a lot of potential and room to get even better.
Of course, playing in Serie A is a very good standard, but moving to the Premier League, and particularly to a club like Spurs, would be a big step up for the youngster.
So, it would be interesting to see how he handled that if a transfer comes to fruition, and FLW's Derby County fan pundit Shaun has admitted that whilst Ebosele’s rise has been somewhat unexpected, he always had the ability to go a long way in the game in the right setup.
“He was one hell of a young player, strong as an ox, quick, bags of potential, but, at the time, that’s what it was - potential. He was really young, raw but with the right guidance who knows how far he can go.
“In Italy, they’re really strict over there, where they drill the players and he will have learnt so much about the game, and they’re defensively really strong. So, maybe he has learnt to be disciplined and they’ve ironed out some of the creases that he had when he was young.
“Those links to Spurs and Leeds are a bit surprising to be honest, but they clearly see something in him, and if he’s now become that bit more mature and improved his consistency, then good luck to him.
“I’d love to see him playing at a higher level back in England. It’s a shame it’s not for Derby, but like a lot of youngsters he had to move on, and let’s just hope he goes to Tottenham, because we don’t really want him going to Leeds!”
It will be interesting to see what happens with Ebosele in the next stage of his career, and a move to Spurs or Leeds will appeal, especially if the Whites win promotion, which is a real possibility.
The youngster took a big risk in making the move to Italy from Derby, but it’s one that has clearly paid off, as he has improved both technically and tactically in Serie A.
