On a Saturday in New York City, Borussia Dortmund teamed up with Street Soccer USA to spread some Black and Yellow football feel-good energy over Duffy Square, the northern triangle of Times Square in the American metropolis. The second edition of the event, following its successful inauguration in 2022, the "Street Soccer Times Square Cup presented by BVB" was once again a real success, once again demonstrating just how popular BVB are in North America.
The event in the heart of Manhattan attracted around 200,000 people to Times Square from the early morning to the late evening. The main focus of the event was on the 300 children playing in the BVB Times Square Cup – an unforgettable football experience in front of an impressive backdrop in New York. The tournament is a project run by the non-profit organisation Street Soccer USA, which is dedicated to fighting poverty and empowering communities through football, and is part of the Street Soccer USA Cup series, the first 4-a-side football competition of its kind in the USA.
One of the highlights away from the pitch was the watch party at the Pelé Soccer Shop located in Times Square, where over 200 fans came together to watch Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga team seal a thrilling home win against Union Berlin live. BVB legend Roman Weidenfeller, who was on site for the entire event, was also a popular guest there, chatting with the locals all throughout the day.
Then came the perfect way to round off the day: after the sun set and New York was bathed in darkness, the legendary Empire State Building was spectacularly illuminated in the Black and Yellow colours of Borussia Dortmund – an impressive reflection of the radiance and strong presence of BVB in the United States in the truest sense of the word.
Borussia Dortmund's Street Soccer Times Square Cup was undoubtedly a great success, celebrating the passion for football and at the same time raising valuable funds for the programmes run by Street Soccer USA. The event once again demonstrated how sport can bring people together and strengthen communities.
