Strasbourg may turn to Chelsea amid doubts over Alaa Bellaarouch

L’Équipe understands that RC Strasbourg Alsace harbour doubts over the level of goalkeeper Alaa Bellaarouch (22). Within this context, alternatives may be sounded out for next season.

Bellaarouch was thrust into the limelight after Matz Sels’ deadline day move to Nottingham Forest in February. Whilst Strasbourg believed the young Moroccan goalkeeper was ready to replace the veteran Belgian, however, a series of unconvincing performances, punctuated by mistakes, are giving the club second thoughts.

Whilst Bellaarouch retains the support of RCSA goalkeeper coach Stéphane Cassard, his future is also in doubt. All options will be studied by Les Alsaciens. The promotion of Robin Risser (19), currently on loan at National 1 side Dijon is a possibility. Strasbourg could also turn to Chelsea, also owned by BlueCo. Gabriel Slonina (20) could be an option, or alternatively, a more experienced option could be sought out. However, if Strasbourg opt for the latter option, a considerable budget would not be allocated, with BlueCo reticent to spend big on players over the age of 23.
