As reported by Le10Sport, Strasbourg have joined the race to sign Bordeaux’s South Korean international striker Hwang Ui-jo.

After a disastrous season for the club who finished bottom of Ligue 1, financial issues saw FCGB dropped to the third division by the authorities. Scorer of 11 Ligue 1 goals last season, Hwang’s sale will contribute to making up a deficit in the club’s finances which will appease French football’s strict financial watchdog, the DNCG. Hwang has a year to run on his current contract.

As a result, Coupe de France winners Nantes, who see the 29-year-old as a replacement for Frankfurt-bound Randal Kolo-Muani, and Portuguese champions Porto, who tabled a bid earlier this month, have also registered their interest in the player with Bordeaux reportedly setting an €8m asking price.

Speaking on his future recently, Hwang explained: “I’m not in a position to say that I’ll be transferred at the moment. I’m waiting for an offer from a good team. Of course, we’ll also have to talk to Bordeaux. I don’t know anything at the moment but I don’t want to directly promote the transfer, it’s not something I can do. I’m just waiting for a good team to arrive.”
