Strange scenes have come out of Turkey this Sunday, as Galatasaray won the Turkish Cup after playing just one minute of football.
The tournament showpiece was taking place this evening having been rescheduled from its initial December billing, with Gala in action against Fenerbahçe in what was expected to be a fiery encounter.
Except it hardly got going.
Fenerbahce sent out their youth side, and when Mauro Icardi scored after a minute in which they hadn’t touched the ball, the U19s walked off the pitch.
The move is reportedly in protest to the Turkish FA and their handling of the fan violence that erupted against Trabzonspor last month, in which supporters rushed the pitch and assaulted players from both sides.
Trabzonspor received a six game supporter ban initially for the violence, but it was reduced to four on appeal, something that Fenerbahçe took offence to.
