Chivas boosted their Liga MX play-off hopes with a vital victory over Toluca at the Estadio Akron on Sunday.
Scorers: Huerta 45+5′, Cisneros 90+5′
Toluca were dealt two separate blows in the first half, with defender Rodrigo Salinas and goalkeeper Luis García both forced off through injury.
Los Rojiblancos made the breakthrough in time added on before the interval. Jesús Ricardo Angulo’s cross was missed by a bunch of players in the area and made its way to César Huerta at the far post.
The 20-year-old showed great composure to take a touch before rifling home to register his first senior goal for the Flock and break the side’s duck under interim manager Marcelo Michel Leaño.
Ronaldo Cisneros finished off a devastating counter-attack moments before the final whistle to put the seal on Leaño’s maiden competitive win since taking over from the sacked Víctor Manuel Vucetich last month.
The three points helped lift the Guadalajara outfit up to ninth in the Apertura with just four regular season games to play.
Toluca remain in third spot despite slipping to their fourth defeat of the season.
