Manchester City entertained West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium earlier this afternoon as they looked to pick up another three points and consolidate their position at the top of the Premier League standings. Man City dominated the ball for major periods of the first half and took the lead at the half-hour mark, courtesy of Ruben Dias’ powerful header. However, the Hammers equalised just 13 minutes later via Michail Antonio’s tap-in from close range. Both sides went into the half-time break with nothing to split them.
Man City pushed on in search of the equaliser, with the East London outfit looking to threaten on the counter. It was John Stones who put his side ahead once again when he scored with a clinical finish. The contest ended with the Mancunian giants earning a hard-fought 2-1 victory over David Moyes’ men.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player fared during the clash against the Hammers.
The Brazilian keeper had to make a couple of saves and did enough to restrict West Ham from scoring more than once during the game.
He made a couple of tackles and was relatively tidy with his ball-distribution. However, Walker struggled to make an impact in the final third.
Stones cleared his lines when required and scored a brilliant goal in the second half to win the game for the Mancunian giants.
The Portuguese centre-back made multiple important clearances at the back and gave his team the lead with a powerful header in the 30th minute.
Zinchenko won the ball back for his team on several occasions and even engineered a couple of decent chances in the attacking third.
The Belgian international protected his backline well and played a sublime pass to set-up Dias’ goal in the first half.
The Brazilian midfield ace made multiple interceptions for Man City and was also lively in the Hammers half.
The German playmaker hardly gave away the ball and kept the ball moving for his side. However, he struggled to influence the game in the final third.
Mahrez picked up an assist for setting up John Stones’ goal in the second half. However, the Algerian didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
Aguero had some bright moments but never looked like he had a goal in him.
The Spaniard was not shy of having a shot at goal and completed a couple of dangerous dribbles during his time on the field. He was substituted in the second half.
He added some energy to the Man City attack.
Foden made a good chance going forward and was quite energetic after coming off the bench.
He didn’t get enough time to make an impact.
