Stoke City’s stance on summer swoop for Leicester City keeper Daniel Iversen becomes clearer | OneFootball

Stoke City are still interested in signing Daniel Iversen and could potentially make a move for the goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, according to a Patreon report from Alan Nixon.

However, any deal is likely to depend on whether Leicester are able to strengthen their options in this particular position.

The Foxes have been touted with a move for Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson.

It is understood that the Black Cats would be open to the possibility of selling Patterson for £10m if they fail to secure promotion to the Premier League later this year.

Leicester could face competition for Patterson’s signature from Wolves who have also been linked with a summer swoop.

Iversen has been a long-term target for Stoke and was linked with a move to the bet365 Stadium last month.

However, the Potters were unable to convince Leicester to part ways with the 25-year-old and thus switched their attention to other targets.

After parting ways with Josef Bursik, Stoke secured the services of Matija Sarkic on a temporary basis from Wolves.

Sarkic made his second appearance for the club in their 1-0 defeat to Luton Town last Saturday and is expected to feature again this weekend when his side face Hull City in the Championship.

The Verdict

When you consider that Stoke’s aim for the remainder of the campaign will be to retain their Championship status, signing Iversen in the summer could prove to be a good bit of business by the club as he knows exactly what it takes to compete at this level.

During his career to date, the Dane has claimed 22 clean-sheets in the 69 appearances that he has made in the second-tier.

Having only been utilised on four occasions by Leicester this season, it could be argued that Iversen should be looking to seal a permanent departure from the club this summer if he fails to make any further inroads over the course of the coming months.

With Sarkic set to return to Wolves following the conclusion of the current term, Stoke will be short of options in this particular position heading into the 2023/24 season and thus signing Iversen would be a wise call.
