Stoke City captain Lewis Baker has praised forward Tyrese Campbell after his return to form following the World Cup break.

Campbell has scored twice and assisted one in three games since their return to football suggesting he’s steadily finding the form he showed before his serious knee injury.

In addition, it’s the first time Campbell has completed three games in a row since he returned from the injury that kept him out for the whole of 2021. It’s the ideal time for his return to form as Stoke’s forwards have now scored as many goals in a fortnight as they managed in the whole 22 league and cup games before the World Cup.

It’s left captain Baker full of praise for the forward, telling club media:  “Tyrese is flying at the moment. He’s got a lot of confidence at the moment. He’s a very dangerous player for us, particularly in one-on-one situations, and he’s getting on the scoresheet. That’s great for us.

I think we’ve got fantastic attackers who bring a lot to the game, not just (Campbell and Delap). Browny [Jacob Brown] went up top in the second half and he had a chance right at the end as well. We’ve got a lot of firepower.”

Baker was speaking after Stoke’s 2-2 draw with Rotherham United on Boxing Day in a game where Stoke had to fight back to get back to gain a point which is a huge step forward.

Alex Neil’s side have only recovered two points from the previous 12 games they’ve fallen behind in this season.

The Verdict

There are signs of life at bet365 Stadium as Alex Neil is finally starting to get a tune out of his Stoke side.

He’s finding a good balance with his players and the form of the attackers is a huge positive for Neil. Campbell is one of those and should he get firing and confident again, Stoke have a player on their hands with a very high ceiling.

There aren’t many forwards in the division who have the capability to take their opponent on, dribble at them and finish in the same sequence and that’s something Campbell has.

Without it, Stoke have lacked imagination which will no doubt dampen home crowds. Campbells upturn in form could have a significant impact on a season that has delivered so little at the moment.
