Donley is set to make the switch to Stoke after an agreement was reached with Spurs over a season-long loan.

The Potters have won the race to bring the forward to the Bet365 Stadium, having fended off interest from Championship rivals.

It was reported in May that West Brom were keen on reuniting the player with former Spurs coach Ryan Mason, who is now in charge at the Hawthorns.

New Tottenham Hotspur coach Thomas Frank opted to take a closer look at the club’s younger players in pre-season before making any decisions over their futures, including Donley.

But now the playmaker is closing in on a temporary move to Stoke, where he will make the step up to the Championship.

Donley has a contract with the London outfit until the summer of 2027.

Stoke City’s summer business

Stoke have already made six signings this summer, with the new Championship campaign set to get underway this weekend.

This has been Mark Robins’ first summer market in charge of the Potters after taking over in January.

The 55-year-old has overseen the arrivals of Maksym Taloverov, Aaron Cresswell, Robert Bozenik, Sorba Thomas, as well as Divin Mubama signing on loan.

Stoke’s first game of the term will come against Derby County on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.

Donley’s arrival will be exciting business for Stoke

Donley performed quite well in League One last year, with no player registering more assists than he did, on top of his eight goal return.

He was add some creativity to Robins’ squad, and give the team an extra attacking edge, as long as he makes a smooth transition to Championship football.

Robins is adept at getting the best out of young talent, and this could be a great fit for the player and for Spurs.
