After much consultation, including surveys, fan assemblies and regular dialogue with the independent fan advisory committee, Stoke have announced that they will change their crest from the beginning of next season.

A landslide 68% of fans voted in favour of changing the current club's badge to the more modernised version, which is a take on the badge which had represented the club between 1977-1992.

Stoke's current badge has been in place since 2001 and is synonymous with the most successful era in the club's history, achieving ten consecutive seasons in the Premier League, including three ninth-place finishes in a row, whilst making an FA Cup final and reaching the knockout stages of the Europa League.

More recently, the Potters have been on the decline. Since relegation from the Premier League in 2018, the club has failed to register a top-half finish in the Championship and barely surviving relegation on numerous occasions.

Now, with a new crest incoming, Stoke will be hoping that another successful spell isn't far away, with a change in identity a catalyst for that success.

With the news of the change breaking this afternoon, fans have taken to social media to voice their opinion on the matter.

The changing of a club's identity, such as a badge or stadium, is sure to spark controversy throughout a fanbase, with some in favour of change and others wanting things to remain the same.

That is no different in this case, with many Stoke fans holding contrasting opinions on the matter via X.

It is safe to say that fans will always agree to disagree on matters such as this, and there will no doubt be more discourse on the decision to follow.

The Potters got off to an excellent start to the season, defeating Derby County at home 3-1 on the opening day courtesy of two late goals from Divin Mubama and Sorba Thomas, and followed that up by beating Walsall on Tuesday via penalties to progress in the League Cup.

Under Mark Robins, Stoke fans will be hoping for a much more positive season, having brought in nine players so far, including the likes of Steven Nzonzi, Maksym Talovierov and Jamie Donley on-loan from Spurs.

Potters fans will watch their side represent the current badge for one more season before the new comes into effect, at which point they will hope to have at least achieved a first top half finish in any division since the 2015/16 season.
