The centre back has also been named in the matchday squad for the first-team on several occasions, although he is yet to make his debut in senior football.

As a result, the 19-year-old is now set for a spell elsewhere in the second half of this season, in order to get some first-team experience under his belt.

According to this latest update, Newport have now agreed a deal to take Baker on loan from Stoke until the end of the season.

The Potters have apparently given the deal the go-ahead, in order for the Wales Under 21 international to get a taste of regular first-team football.

Stoke City's nickname is the Potters?

True False

Newport currently sit 19th in the League Two table, six points clear of the relegation zone.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could be a good deal for those involved with it.

For Baker, he is getting the chance to play regular first-team football, something which ought to aid his development, and Stoke will no doubt be taking a keen interest in how he fares in this position.

Newport meanwhile, are bolstering their squad with a promising young player who has something of a point to prove, and could therefore turn into a useful asset for them in the coming months.

With that in mind, it feels as though this is a move that makes sense for all involved, and there will be plenty keen to see it play out that way between now and the end of the season.
