Stockport County have earned promotion back to the Football League, 11 years after they were relegated.

A 2-0 victory over Halifax Town on Sunday confirmed the Hatters as National League champions, and they will be playing League Two football next season.

Dave Challinor’s side needed just a point to clinch promotion on the final day, and in the end they did it in style, with goals from Paddy Madden and Will Collar earning them victory.

The final whistle was greeted by jubilant celebrations as the Stockport fans flooded the Edgeley Park pitch.

Elsewhere, Wrexham – who are owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – finished second after they were beaten by Dagenham and Redbridge on the final day.

Halifax, who finished fourth, will host Chesterfield in the promotion eliminators.
