Chelsea are closing in on a move for Xavi Simons, whilst they are also thought to be in the market for a left sided defender to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Chelsea still active in pursuit of Jorrel Hato

Whilst Chelsea have made some good signings and have strengthened their attack, there are still areas of the squad which need improving.

One such area is left back, with the Blues in need of back up for Marc Cucurella, as the the 27-year-old is currently the only left back in the squad.

Malo Gusto and Reece James filled in at times last season, but it’s something Chelsea need to address as Cucurella simply can’t play every game.

However, it looks like the Blues have identified 19-year-old Hato as the man for the job, but they’ve yet to make an offer to Ajax.

Chelsea are said to have held fresh talks over a move for Hato, with Ajax reportedly quoting suitors £60m for the teenager, and Jacobs has provided an update on the situation.

He took to X.com and said:

“Chelsea still active on Jorrel Hato after opening fresh talks. No bid yet, but one to watch.”

Hato can play both left back and centre back making him a perfect fit for Maresca’s system, and despite his age he’s already a Dutch international and has made over 100 appearances for Ajax.

Renato Veiga close to Atletico Madrid move

Whilst Chelsea are considering a move for Hato, Renato Veiga, who played that role over the first half of last season is moving closer to the exit door.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of the last season on loan at Juventus after deciding he wanted to play as a centre back.

Veiga is closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid, with Chelsea thought to want a total package of €40m, which would represent a significant profit on the €14m they paid 12 months ago.
