Stevie signing may finally get big Rangers break

Ryan Kent’s potential injury absence is the perfect time for Scott Wright finally to secure his place in Rangers’ first team and show he really is a serious candidate for a permanent place long term.

The former Aberdeen winger, just £300,000 from Pittodrie, has impressed with his work ethic and his pace, albeit he looked, like the rest of the side, completely out of his depth v Malmo.

His cameo last night wasn’t exactly sparkling, albeit few stood out, but for at least bread and butter SPL matches, Wright has definitely shown the right guts and commitment.

He’s definitely been a player who’s wanted to work hard and show he deserves a place.

Is he actually good enough?

The jury is definitely out on him. He has pace, he has heart, but whether he has enough pure quality to deliver for a club the size of Rangers is another matter – but he deserves the opportunity to try.

And with Kent potentially being out for a while, Wright has a real shot at claiming the left wing berth for himself.

In truth, he’s really the only candidate we have to replace Kent – there is Sakala and Hagi, but the former is completely unproven and the latter is more used as a RW by Stevie.

That said, all of these are adaptable.

But Wright certainly seems the obvious candidate.

End of the day we signed him to play him – this is a signing Stevie endorsed and likes.

If Kent’s injury doesn’t give him first preference to replace him, we’d wonder what the point of having him was.

Wrighty, the floor is (surely) yours.
