Pressure on Chelsea head coach Graham Potter increased after Manchester City made light work of them to progress in the FA Cup.

The hosts broke the deadlock through Riyad Mahrez’s stunning free-kick from 25 yards just before the half-hour mark.

City were then awarded a penalty after Kai Havertz had handled in the area, allowing Julián Àlvarez to step up and dispatch from 12 yards to double the advantage.

Phil Foden then poked home from six yards out after being found by Kyle Walker’s cut-back as the Premier League champions ran riot in the first half.

Chelsea handed a debut to David Fofana in the second half but there was no comeback as Mahrez rounded off the victory with another penalty in the dying minutes after Kalidou Koulibaly fouled Foden in the box.

Pep Guardiola’s side will meet the winners of Monday’s tie between Oxford United and Arsenal in the next round.

Stevenage stun Villa with two late goals

Scorers: Sanson 33′; Reid (PEN) 88′, Campbell 90′.

League Two side Stevenage scored two late goals to earn a stunning win over Premier League opponents Aston Villa in one of the third round’s biggest upsets.

The hosts had moved ahead just after the half-hour mark with Morgan Sanson finishing from close range after being played in by Danny Ings following an intricate team move.

But Jamie Reid levelled from the penalty spot after Leander Dendoncker had been sent off for a professional foul.

It looked as if the visitors were going to welcome Unai Emery’s men back home for a replay but there was one more final twist as Dean Campbell made room for a shot from a short corner to squeeze the ball past Robin Olsen and dump Villa out of the cup.

Leeds come from behind to avoid shock

Scorers: Philogene 24′, Ojo 30′; Rodrigo 66′, Perkins 90+3′.

Leeds United came from two goals behind to avoid a shock third round exit with a stoppage-time equaliser earning a draw against ten-man Cardiff City.

Cardiff moved ahead early on when Jaden Philogene slid the ball home from just inside the six yard box after Mark Harris’ shot had deflected into his path.

The picture was made bleaker for the visitors in the 30th minute when Sheyi Ojo ran on to a pass over the top before chesting the ball down and smashing it past Joel Robles.

But Leeds dragged themselves back into it midway through the second half with Rodrigo Moreno coming off the bench to head in from a corner.

Rodrigo spurned the chance to pull level in the final ten minutes when Leeds were awarded a penalty after Joel Bagan had handled in the box but the Spanish striker saw his spot-kick saved by Jak Alnwick.

Jesse Marsch’s side pushed for an equaliser with Mateo Joseph shooting over from close range with the goal gaping with the time running out and Leeds looking as if they were going to be the sixth top-tier side to fall at the first hurdle but another substitute was there to save the day.

A flick in the box saw the ball fall into the path of Sonny Perkins who bagged his first goal for the club to earn a replay.
