The Trotters' head coach has made his feelings clear as the start of the League One season edges closer.
Bolton Wanderers head coach Steven Schumacher has made a clear transfer plea as the club's League One curtain-raiser against Stockport County edges closer.
The Trotters are set to travel to Edgeley Park for their opening day clash with Stockport on August 3, but Schumacher is not content with the current state of his squad, particularly when it comes to the strikers he has available.
The 41-year-old has seen his side win each of their three pre-season friendlies so far, against Orlando Pirates, Barrow and Hibernian, with those victories including three clean sheets, so it seems as though Bolton are in good shape defensively.
However, Schumacher is seemingly less content with how things are looking at the other end of the pitch, as he has made it clear that the club needs to bring in at least one striker before the new season starts, as per The Bolton News.
Bolton have brought in two strikers so far this summer, with Sam Dalby having been signed on a free transfer from Wrexham and Charlie Warren having joined following a prolific spell in non-league with Felixstowe & Walton United.
John McAtee, Victor Adeboyejo, Dan N'lundulu and youngster David Abimbola are the other forwards currently in Bolton's squad. However, Adeboyejo is recovering from a long-term ACL injury, N'lundulu has been told that he is free to leave the club this summer, and Abimbola has only made four League One appearances, so it is no surprise that Schumacher is keen on adding further reinforcements up front.
The Bolton boss has been dealt a further blow as new signings Dalby and Warren have both picked up injuries in pre-season.
He has made it clear that he wants two new attacking options before the end of the transfer window, with at least one needed before the game against Stockport, as per The Bolton News.
"We are going to have to get to work on this now," Schumacher said.
"It's really important that we get somebody in next week to spend some time with us before the season starts.
"We need to get something sorted because we're really short. We want to try and do two strikers if we can before the season starts, and if we can only manage one, then fine, we might have to wait a little bit longer, but we're really short in that department.
"The quicker, the better. Obviously, the more time we get to spend with players and work on them, the more to our way of thinking, the better."
With Aaron Collins having completed an £800,000 move to MK Dons this summer, Adeboyejo being set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and N'lundulu free to depart, it has been clear for some time that Bolton need to strengthen in the final third, even after signing Dalby and Warren.
The Trotters had a £500,000 bid for Celtic striker Johnny Kenny rejected last month, with the Hoops said to have set a £1 million price-tag, meaning that a loan move later in the window is now likelier than a permanent transfer.
Meanwhile, Bolton have been linked with a move for North Macedonia international David Toshevski, who is a free agent after leaving Austrian outfit Klagenfurt at the end of last season.
It will be interesting to see whether a deal for either player can be completed in the next couple of weeks, or if Bolton turn their attention to other targets as Schumacher grows increasingly impatient at the lack of a new centre-forward.
