Jordan Jones was the subject of heavy criticism back in September when he picked up a red card on a silly challenge of Celtic’s Moritz Bauer in his Old Firm debut.
To add insult to injury, the Rangers new boy suffered a knee injury that’s caused him to miss nearly four months of football.
With plenty of time to think about the price he’s paid for his actions, manager Steven Gerrard hopes that the 25-year-old has learned his lesson.
“I think it would be very naive from a personal point of view if he hasn’t learned from that, because he has missed a big chunk of the season,” said Gerrard.
“He knew himself, you only had to look at his face in the dressing room after that game against Celtic.
“Then in the weeks after it, when he got the news of the extent of the injury – it wasn’t the start to his Rangers career that he would have wanted. So he needs to make up for lost time.”
Gerrard also claimed that the Northern Ireland international is close to making a full return to the first-team squad.
“Jordan has got more training under his belt now,” said Gerrard. “Last week he trained but I didn’t see the real Jordan Jones, the way he was before he got the injury.
“So if we see that in training this week, then he will give me something to think about for the games coming up.”
Rangers, who are five points behind Celtic with a game in hand, will prepare for their Boxing Day clash with Kilmarnock.
