In terms of 2024 and beyond, Ornstein believes that Gerrard has been identified as Klopp’s potential successor.

“It is no secret that Gerrard and many at the club would like him to manage Liverpool one day and, while it may never happen, the subject is understood to have been discussed informally by all parties,” Ornstein wrote.

“Gerrard is thought to be in regular contact with Klopp and Liverpool’s leadership.”

It is quite interesting that both Gerrard and Klopp signed new deals last week until 2024.

Gerrard has done a solid job at Rangers thus far. His side sit two points off league leaders Celtic, which highlights that they do have a serious chance of winning the Scottish Premiership this season.

If Klopp were to depart in 2024 and Gerrard were to be offered the Liverpool job, he would be at a stage in his managerial career where he would be ready to take over.

By gaining experience in Scotland, he has fast-tracked his development as a manager. The reality is, to manage a club such as Liverpool, one does need something on their CV.

However, this is something to discuss in more depth come the future. Klopp is doing a fantastic job at Liverpool.
