Steve Cooper has revealed that Rodrigo Ely has suffered a fresh injury setback at Nottingham Forest.

Forest fans are yet to see Ely in action since the defender arrived at the City Ground on a free transfer a few days after the transfer window closed.

The 27-year-old has been playing catch-up in regards to his fitness, having been released by Alaves at the end of last season.

But speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Forest’s home clash with Blackpool, Cooper has revealed that Ely has suffered a fresh injury blow.

Via Nottinghamshire Live, he said: “There’s no real difference to where we were before the international break.

“Rodri has had a little bit of a setback. He turned his ankle in training. He won’t be out for long, and hopefully we’ll see him in training again next week.

“We need to build him up to get close to being involved.”

Elsewhere, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Loic Mbe Soh remain sidelined with hamstring and thigh injuries respectively, as Forest look to put another three points on the board this weekend.

The Verdict

Ely was brought in as cover for Forest’s defensive options, but he must feel disappointed at his lack of impact so far.

He was never going to be a regular starter, but if one of Tobias Figueiredo, Scott McKenna or Joe Worrall get injured now, then who can they rely on for depth?

He needs to keep his head down and focus on getting as fit as possible as soon as possible.
