In the 19th minute when Brennan Johnson put his side ahead, the fans will have been full of confidence that the game was theirs.

However, Steve Cooper’s side had a slower second half, whilst Sheffield United came out fighting, which led to the Blades scoring two goals making the score 3-3 on aggregate.

After extra time, the two sides were still level, meaning the game went to a penalty shootout, which Forest won 3-2 after Brice Samba’s heroics saw him save three of the opposition’s penalties.

The City Ground erupted again as fans took to the pitch to celebrate their trip to Wembley.

Following the game, Forest boss Cooper commented on the impact of the atmosphere, as he told Nottinghamshire Live: “The fans were off the scale. They are amazing.

“I say it every week, but it’s been a magical place to work on match days this season. But that was special.

“The noise. We go 2-1 down and they get louder and more supportive.

“This doesn’t happen everywhere. It doesn’t. We’re just so lucky to be a part of it.”

The Verdict:

You can imagine how electric the atmosphere was inside the City Ground last night, especially given how much of a rollercoaster the game was.

Steve Cooper has given the fans a lot to shout about this season since doing such a terrific job with a club who were bottom of the league when he arrived there, and it’s clear the fans are eager to show their appreciation.

Although, Cooper will now be hoping that the Forest fans are now able to make the same level of noise inside Wembley as they compete for promotion to the Premier League.
