Scotland have announced that head coach Steve Clarke has penned a new contract on the eve of the European Championship qualification campaign.

They take on Cyprus in their opener on Saturday at Hampden Park and ahead of that one, the SFA have announced that the man in charge has put pen to paper on fresh terms, signing a deal until 2026.

“I am proud that my coaching team and I will continue to lead the team through the next two qualifying campaigns, as well as Nations League Group A but being able to do so is a testament to the squad of players who have been central to our improvement,” Clarke stated.

“The immediate focus is ensuring a positive start to our Euros campaign against Cyprus, who were the opposition for my first match in charge in 2019. We have evolved a lot since that game four years ago, adding quality and competition in every area of the team.”

During his time as Scotland boss, Clarke has led the country to Euro 2020 (a first major tournament since 1998) and also achieved promotion to Nations League Group A last year.
