Steve Bruce Is Blunt But Accurate About Today’s Performance

One thing we don’t want to hear from Steve Bruce now is any excuses about today’s performance. It was well below the standard required for this football club, and we can’t remember the last time a Newcastle team looked so hapless.

Thankfully, Steve Bruce has saved us from any futile attempts to explain away today’s performance, at least for now.

Here are some comments that Steve Bruce has made to BBC Newcastle.

“I’ve got to be ready for the flack which will come my way. And, to be perfectly honest, sometimes you deserve a bit of stick. I’ve got no problem with that because, today, we weren’t good enough.” “We have to be better than we were today. We have to do a bit more. We had a couple of wonderful chances in the first half but let’s not cover over the big, gaping things – and the performance, as a whole, was disappointing.”

Shields Gazette has posted some further comments from Steve Bruce which share the same tone as those above.

“With and without the ball, we certainly didn’t do enough. We didn’t do enough with it or without it. We had a couple of wonderful chances that might have given us a spark. “I feel as if I’m just disappointed with the manner of the whole thing. We’ll go to work again to improve. I wouldn’t question the desire. Certainly, we could do more in a lot of departments.”

This was the worst performance by a Newcastle side for some time. It harkens back to the McClaren days in its abomination. However, we will try to remember that we are just two games into the season.

Steve will have to go back to the drawing board with his tactics. He doesn’t seem to have the type of players fit for this formation.

Today’s performance was lacking to say the least. It was an aimless, perfunctory display and a regression from last week’s game at Arsenal.
