Steve Bruce Gives Reason For Allan Saint-Maximin Missing Training

In his press conference for the Norwich match on Saturday, Steve Bruce has given an update on injuries. There is a bit of a surprise inclusion to the injury list. That is that Allan Saint-Maximin is suffering from a hamstring problem.

It was noticed a few days ago that Allan was missing from the training photos the club had released. It appears that after training earlier in the week, Allan had some hamstring discomfort and he was kept out of training the past few days.

In those photographs, we also noticed that Jonjo Shelvey was involved. He had been substituted with a knee problem against Arsenal.

This is what Steve Bruce has said about both Shelvey and Saint-Maximin:

“I think Jonjo Shelvey’s going to be OK, touch wood. At this moment, we have a problem with Saint-Maximin – we don’t know how bad his hamstring is but it was a bit tight after training on Monday or Tuesday. We’ll see how he is today.”

It would be a bit of a blow not to have Allan Saint-Maximin available for the Norwich match. He was able to come on in the final thirty minutes against Arsenal and cause them some problems. However with it being a hamstring, he should not be risked at all if there is any doubt whatsoever.

Steve has also given the following update on Andy Carroll’s progress:

“He’s done a bit of running on the grass. He’s still four or five weeks away, but I’m sure he’s going to have a big part to play.”

Four to five weeks is about the timeframe that had been recently reported for Andy’s return. It was said that the September 14th match at Liverpool was a target date. It appears that he is progressing well and let’s hope he makes his return for Newcastle in that game at Anfield.
