Celtic’s B-Team manager, Stephen McManus says that he is looking forward to his side’s season starting on Friday night as final preparations continue ahead of Friday’s match against Cumbernauld Colts. McManus’ side will be competing in the Lowland League again this season and, speaking to Celtic TV, the former Celtic captain said that pre-season has gone well and now all eyes are focused on this week’s league opener.“So far it’s been a good pre-season,” he said. “There’s a few fresh faces who have come up from the under-18’s and there’s a few boys have been away on first team duty.

“Pre-season is a long stint for the players and staff because you need to get the volume of work in to their legs.

“We’ve done that and now it’s the serious business for them.

“We’re looking forward to the start of the season and hopefully we can have another successful campaign.”

Aswell as some new faces in the playing squad, McManus welcomed a new face to his coaching team, with former Celt Jonny Hayes joining Celtic’s B-Team set up as a coach.

Hayes, who won three league titles, two League Cups and two Scottish Cups during his time playing with Celtic, recently announced his retirement from playing and McManus says he is a great addition to his coaching team. “He’s been a breath of fresh air,” he said. “He’s just recently retired and he knew he wanted to go down the coaching route.“The opportunity came for him to come and work at our place and he’s thoroughly enjoying it. “Sometimes a different pair of eyes or a different voice really enhances the players’ development so he’s added great value.”
