Feyenoord midfielder Calvin Stengs confirms there was ‘interest from Lazio,’ but insists there is nothing concrete about a move to Serie A yet.
The player had also been linked with Milan and Fiorentina this summer, but the Biancocelesti appear to have been the most insistent.
“It’s true, Lazio came looking for me, but there is nothing concrete,” Stengs told ESPN.
“I am happy at Feyenoord. I’ve only been here for a year, so we’ll see what happens.”
The 25-year-old plays as a creative midfielder or on the right side of a trident attack and is represented by Team Raiola.
Feyenoord purchased Stengs from OGC Nice only a year ago for €6m and his price-tag has more than doubled in that time, thanks to a season with eight goals and 18 assists in 43 competitive games.
It was reported by Calciomercato.com and Sky Sport Italia that Lazio were prepared to offer €12m, but the Dutch club was holding out for at least €15m.
The player also has eight senior caps for the Netherlands, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
He started out in the AZ Alkmaar youth academy and also had a loan spell at Royal Antwerp.
