Stefan Ortega has agreed a three-year contract with Manchester City, according to Sky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg.

The 29-year-old is expected to undergo a medical with the Premier League side ahead of joining on a free transfer after his contract at Arminia Bielefeld expired.

Ortega kept six clean sheets last season and 11 clean sheets in the 2020/21 season. Despite Arminia Bielefeld’s relegation, Ortega stood out as one of the Bundesliga’s best goalkeepers.

The German is excellent with his feet and pulled off the most saves in the Bundesliga last season, and had the second highest save percentage (73.3%), second to Freiburg’s Mark Flekken.

Former Arminia Bielefeld head coach Frank Kramer likened Ortega to Manuel Neuer in February: “If you have a goalkeeper that you can play to, you can position yourself better and give yourself a little time and breathing space. He’s really valuable for that.”

Ortega will arrive at Manchester City as an understudy to Ederson.
